On November 3, 2020, I presented to a session titled Engaging Students with Diverse Books to the teachers and staff of Washington County Public Schools. We discussed the importance of diverse books, looked at publishing statistics and enrollment statistics, then reviewed a collection of books on a variety of diversity topics, including: racial/ethnic diversity, cultural diversity, LGBTQ+ diversity, socio-economic diversity, neurodiversity, and more. Finally, we reviewed resources where students can access diverse books and professional readings for teachers.
